Fallout 4 + DLC Review.

So by now everyone has pretty much heard of the Fallout franchise if you are a fan of gaming but not everyone holds it in good light. I myself am and Avid Fallout fan but with the latest installment of the Fallout line i can't help but feel both happy with the result and a little down trodden by Bethesda at the same time. So what is Fallout 4 for those of you that have no idea? Fallout 4 is Bethesda Game Studio's latest installment of it's post apocalyptic open world survival game where almost everything seems to either be out to kill, maim or eat you. The basic gist of Fallout 4 is as follows, You for reasons i will not cover in case of spoilers are the sole survivor of vault 111 and you enter a world destroyed by nuclear war. Every second is a fight for survival (On the higher difficulties at least) and every choice you make is your own.

Now Fallout 4 to me seems to be a little more dumb than it's precursors feeling as it leans more towards the shooter genre with a lot of it's older content ripped from the game to make way for newer more shiny content. The general story and the forced character conversations feel very rust sometimes and feel a little underwhelming compared to how i would feel back in the days of the silent protagonists of Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas, Now don't get me wrong the review isn't all hate! The story line itself isn't that bad i just feel that it's been toned down a little to reach to a wider audience. The Graphical style has also been overhauled and many people seem to dislike this new change, i however feel that the scenery and color pallet of the new instillation in the fallout series is actually a lot better looking than those of old.

The new item crafting system's are very straight forward and rather fun as long as you have all the needed items (Which can be a huge pain in the ass to run around looking for as they can be very difficult to find) and the needed perks in some cases to build the better and more complex weapon and armor upgrades. Another new crafting feature implemented is that power armor is no longer a selection of inventory based clothing but is now a mechanical super suit that you need to enter and exit and can maintain and upgrade at one of it's allocated stations. Another new feature implemented is that using power armor actually comes at a cost now, you need to fuel the thing with fusion cores that run out pretty fast depending on how quickly you move around the wasteland. I find myself avoiding the power armor until later on in the game when i have a better suit and plenty of fusion cores to spare to prevent myself from running out very quickly. This changed the play style for people that liked to tank using these suits in the older games but i myself feel it's a welcome addition to the franchise and add's more immersion to the game itself. In games like Fallout 4 realism is key and the new Workshop settlements are an interesting addition to the game, Workshop settlements are basically allocated civilization plots that you can interact with and build as you see fit to create a realistic bustling settlement or the most wacky and deranged place you can create. I found this to be an enjoyable side task to the main game and a large distraction that i quite enjoyed myself, it also serves as a cheeky way for you to level up your character easily at earlier levels. The workshop's have been slowly expanded by Bethesda in two ways firstly via in game updates that they released to add planned content that didn't make the original cut of the game and secondly by the Newly released DLC titled Wasteland Workshop. Now i was heavily disappointed with Wasteland Workshop and i felt that a lot of the content was cop out neon lighting and things we didn't really want or need. I did like the idea of the Arena stuff being implemented however the shockingly bad AI of Fallout strikes again and the Arena's you can build pretty much just suck. Overall Wasteland workshop is a disappointing DLC that isn't really worth picking up solo and barely is worth being included in the season pass as it was.

I did however rather enjoy Fallout 4's first released DLC Automatron a lot, having the option to actually build and create a companion of your choice with your preference of style was quite interesting and the large combination if options to do so had me drooling at the mouth. The quest line involved with this DLC although small is quite entertaining, i suggest that if you buy and play the Automatron story line to do it while dressed as the Silver Shroud to get some fun and interesting dialogue. it spices things up and made me laugh a little too.

Returning back to Fallout 4 now it's late game is now open completely unlike previous installments as you are no longer forced to finish the game upon completing the main quest line. you are allowed to freely roam, build and manager your settlements, play the DLC and hunt for loot and enemies while questing which i feel is a nice touch as Bethesda finally listened and gave us this option! I do feel however that a lot of fallout 4's ambiance was spoiled by the voiced player character and the environments just didn't seem to intimidate me and scare me like they used to when i was playing Fallout 3 and New Vegas.

To finish up the review i'll quickly touch on the fact that modding is now coming to consoles for Fallout 4 (Yay!) With the suggested release date being May for Xbox one and June for PS4 (Boo!). Far harbor will also be released next month sometime in mid May i would assume due to the release date of Wasteland Workshop which i hope this will be a fun DLC as it will be the First full scale expansion for Fallout 4.

My Overall review of fallout 4 is as follows:

Fallout 4 Base Game - 7.5 / 10.

Fallout 4 Automatron DLC - 9 / 10.

Fallout 4 Wasteland Workshop DLC - 4 / 10.

Birth of my Blogger.

So i decided that my love for writing and my love for gaming should be combined into a bog. Yup, seen this done before so why should i care? Well you only need to care if you want to care, I simply don't mind. The purpose of this blog is to give me an outlet due to me being currently unemployed and really bored however it will contain content that interests both myself and potentially others! So to introduce myself a little better my name is Adam Walker and i am a 20 year old male from South Yorkshire in England. I'm open to any questions and will respond to them as long as they are appropriate and they are on topic. I might also take requests in the future and maybe work on collaborations with other Bloggers/ People in the future. So the blog itself will be a honest to the bone gaming review blog with other misc content also included. I'm doing this purely for myself but would love to eventually have a few people enjoy my content. Thank's for reading and stay tuned for more in the near future!
